He's done it again.
This time, Syracuse was down 57-53 with under a minute. Inexplicably, Georgetown allows McNamara to get the ball and get a decent shot off... and he drained it. 57-56. Georgetown goes down, Syracuse steals the ball, McNamara gets it, dribbles down 3/4 the lenght of the court, and finds an open Eric Devendorf for the open layup. Syracuse wins 58-57. McNamara finished with 17 points and 5 assists, and a shot for the Big East Title. What an incredible run by the senior. Big threes in each game, big passes, and three Syracuse wins.
They'll take on Pittsburgh tomorrow, as the Panthers rocked Villanova 68-54. But the real story, unfortunately, was Allan Ray, who was poked in the eye by Carl Krauser, which was seriously one of the ugliest things I have ever seen. I don't often get sick to my stomach, but I did when I saw this replay. Thankfully, according to Jay Wright, it "looked a lot worse than it was." This was great to hear. You hate to see a player end his career with something like this, or even worse, have something that happened on the basketball court significantly effect someone's life, which is what it looked like might happen. Initially, it was being reported that Ray couldn't see, and he was taken to the hospital. Apparently, he is getting some vision back. Hopefully he'll be able to come back and play in the tourney, and hopefully he's ok.
Elsewhere, there's still a couple teams left that bubble teams should be rooting hard against in these major conference tournies. Those teams are:
Wake Forest - ACC
Nebraska - Big 12
South Carolina - SEC
Finally, I got to give props to Leon Powe of Cal. Powe scored 41 as Cal beat Oregon 91-87 in double OT. They'll take on UCLA for the Pac-10 Title.
